“Transmute†– lead into gold. I first heard Erin sing as a mezzo with one of the Wesendonck songs in Conwy.
She is now a soprano but since I am no singer I feel unable to comment on a change of this kind – many of you will have an immediate understanding being singers yourselves.
I asked Erin to learn and sing all of the 5 Wesendonck songs by Wagner, a big ask.
These are a stellar part of the vocal repertoire.
I could never have imagined in my earlier life that one day I would be able to present this song cycle to an audience.
I first came to know them through a Jessye Norman recording – started at the very peak!
