SUMMARY:Young Musicians
DESCRIPTION:Oliver Pearce – cello and fellow young musicians\nWe have some interesting musicians lined up and please expect a variety of music genres. The purpose of the evening is to give a supportive opportunity to any young person who has reached the equivalent of grade 8. We have a fund which can supply the Club’s Muriel Lewis Award if we find someone with outstanding ability. \nI have asked Nicki Pearce (she played the Rachmaninov cello sonata with Christina for us) to organise the musicians\, since she is involved with music teaching at Canolfan Gerdd William Matthias.

SUMMARY:Trio Arisonto
DESCRIPTION:Annemarie Federle – french horn\, Ezo Sarici – violin\, Harry Rylance – piano\nAnother success story from BBC Young Musicians where Annemarie was one of the 3 concerto finalists 2 years ago. She then visited us as a duo and that concert showcased an immense talent so I asked her to return but this time as a trio. \nAnnemarie was substituted at the last moment to play the Oliver Knudsen horn concerto with the LPO this May and the Guardian review was most congratulatory. Annemarie has a great future and we are fortunate to bring her to Rhyl this early in her career. I have just heard that this December Annemarie has become Principal Horn for not 1 but 2 orchestras\, the Aurora which is a more occasional affair but which performs without music and then the London Philharmonic. 2 promotions at age 20! \n\nSchubert – Notturno in Eb Major Op. 148 D. 897\nSchubert – Violin Sonata D. 408\nHuw Watkins – Horn Trio\nBrahms – Horn Trio in Eb Major Op. 40

SUMMARY:A delectable concert
DESCRIPTION:Last night from Lara Melda. There are pianists I have no interest in because they are either merely technical wizards or the way they maul the music is not for me. Lara Melda has the technical ability for sure but it is put in the service of the music. Her Chopin interpretation is well recognised but we had far more than that from Beethoven to Liszt\, Rach. and Brahms. Her area of expertise at present appears to be the Romantic era and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the future. When I book musicians for concerts I want to ensure that we have the highest quality and this often means finding young musicians on their rapid ascent. Lara fulfils that and more. A great concert for a local music club to have put on and one to lay down in memory.

Graham is a classical cellist (he came to Rhyl with a string trio) but he is also part of Classico Latino and Director of Music at Magdelene College. Would club members like a visit from his South American group next season? Let me know! \nEllis is studying music at Downing College while continuing music performance with Tessa Nicholson at the Royal Academy and he is\, of course\, a Rhyl Club member. \n\nBach – Gamba Sonata 1 in G\nBloch – From Jewish Life\nDebussy – Cello Sonata\nRachmaninov – Cello Sonata

SUMMARY:Krysia Osostowicz\, Clara Biss\, Mary Hoffman - violins and violas
DESCRIPTION:Krysia Osostowicz\, Clara Biss\, Mary Hoffman – violins and violas\nEfallai na fyddwch yn gyfarwydd a chywed y math hwn o gerddoriaeth pan fydd pob cerddor yn cymryd eu tro ar violin a viola. \nDysgodd Kyrsia Mary a Clara ac mae wedi bod yn uwch aelod o lawer o grwpiau siambr enwog. \nMae Clara wedi cael gyrfa gerddorfaol ond yn ddiweddarach wedi canolbwyntio ar gerddoriaeth siambr. \nMae Mary yn adnabyddus i ni o gyngherddau amrywiol. \n\nMusic to be played will be posted later.\nMy first guess was that it might be baroque but I looked at what existed and found music by Kodaly\, Ysaye and many more.

SUMMARY:Krysia Osostowicz\, Clara Biss\, Mary Hoffman - violins and violas - revised date
DESCRIPTION:REVISED DATES FOLLOWING PANDEMIC POSTPONEMENTS\n*** THIS CONCERT IS 2.30-4PM ***\nKrysia Osostowicz\, Clara Biss\, Mary Hoffman – violins and violas\nThis is an opportunity to hear music to which you may not be accustomed. Each musician will take turns on violin and viola. \nKrysia taught both Mary and Clara and has been a senior member of many famous chamber groups such as Dante and Endymion. One of her teachers was Yehudi Menuhin. \nClara has had an orchestral career but latterly has concentrated more on chamber music with the Lawson Trio\, Endymion Ensemble and Britten Sinfonia. \nMary is now well known to us from varied concerts including our Beethoven in Wales series. \n\nMusic to be played will be posted later.\nMy first guess was that it might be baroque but I looked at what existed and found music by Kodaly\, Ysaye and many more.

SUMMARY:Joseph Havlat - piano - revised date
DESCRIPTION:REVISED DATES FOLLOWING PANDEMIC POSTPONEMENTS.\nJoseph Havlat – piano\nJo is a Tasmanian Australian now living in London. \nYou may recall hearing him on two occasions with a piano trio and he so impressed us that I have invited him to give a solo recital. \nI have followed his career with interest especially in my previous role at Making Music. His concerts with Lotte Betts Dean were noteworthy. \nOriginally Jo was going to include jazz era classical music and notably a piece by Elena Kats-Chernin. Covid has probably put paid to all that so we await his choice of music with interest.

DESCRIPTION:Erin Rossington – soprano\, Cole Knutson – piano\n“Transmute” – lead into gold.  I first heard Erin sing as a mezzo with one of the Wesendonck songs in Conwy. \nShe is now a soprano but since I am no singer I feel unable to comment on a change of this kind – many of you will have an immediate understanding being singers yourselves. \nI asked Erin to learn and sing all of the 5 Wesendonck songs by Wagner\, a big ask. \nThese are a stellar part of the vocal repertoire.\nI could never have imagined in my earlier life that one day I would be able to present this song cycle to an audience.\nI first came to know them through a Jessye Norman recording – started at the very peak! \n\nWagner – Wesendonck Lieder for voice and piano\nA somewhat lighter second half
