SUMMARY:Piano Quartets
DESCRIPTION:Mary Hofman violin Emma Shepherd viola  Rebecca Knight cello Richard Ormrod piano \nBrahms No 3 \nPossibly Turina and more \nPiano quartets are perhaps the most accessible music form and to get our season off to a popular start\, we have a quartet of superb musicians. Richard and Mary are known to most of us but we also have two other players of repute. Emma Shepherd is a regular Principal Viola with numerous orchestras and uses her expertise in films and games music. Rebecca Knight has similar experience with chamber orchestras but of late has extended her interests to electronic composition and especially in bringing together music and natural world soundscapes.

SUMMARY:Rose and Matthew Mclachlan Piano Duo
DESCRIPTION:Rose and Matthew Mclachlan Piano Duo \nRachmaninov Morceaux\nGinastera Danzas Argentinas\nRavel La Valse\nScriabin Sonata either 7 or 9\nChopin \nRose and Matthew have been welcome visitors at our Club since their early teens being involved in concerts including Mozart and Beethoven Piano Concertos as well as solo recitals. We remember Rose’s first concert as being deeply affecting – technical excellence but with serious musicality. Matthew most recently gave us a solo performance of massive virtuosity. Tonight’s concert features popular works for both soloist and duo. Finally we get to hear La Valse in Rhyl\, a piece astride two worlds – late Romantic music but with a decidedly modern twist. \nhttps://pianosummerschool.com/profile/name/rose-mclachlan/ \nhttps://matthewmclachlan.co.uk/

SUMMARY:Guitar music and a capella choir music
DESCRIPTION:Dowland\, De La Halle\, Dag Wiren\, plus unnamed Latin composers for guitarist. \nCanorus was formed principally to sing polyphonic music of the Renaissance period\, and the group is kept deliberately small.  We are pleased to contribute to the John Dowland celebrations this year\, and we are also delighted to be singing some Palestrina – one of our favourite composers!  We are sufficiently broad-minded to include some marvellous pieces by Stanford\, Elgar and Finzi\, and hope you will enjoy listening as much as we will enjoy performing! \n \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Duo Ekeš
DESCRIPTION:Ezo Sarici violin Deniz Cengiz piano\nMusic includes:\nElgar Violin Sonata\nBeethoven Kreutzer Sonata \nBoth Ezo and Deniz\, Turkish musicians\, have appeared at Rhyl previously. The Duo has performed widely across Europe and recently established a Festival Academy at Gregynog Hall\, attracting major musicians as teachers. Both have careers beyond the Duo and are keen to introduce new music and explore Turkish idioms. Ezo has performed with Annemarie Federle and Jess Gillam but she composes and appears at jazz and folk clubs. Our Club approves this catholic approach to music genres. These are young musicians with great futures. \nhttps://www.ezosarici.com/videos

SUMMARY:Chethams Big Band
DESCRIPTION:Chethams Big Band \nDirector Richard Iles \nLast season’s visit by the Big Band was quite remarkable. Nearly 30 students from Chets with their laid-back director/compere\, Richard\, who has brought this Band to a stunning standard. \nChethams is often thought of as a school for classical music\, but it is far more than that\, and my recent visit to the Piano Summer School was a revelation.\nFrom last time I especially remember the entertaining pianist and the saxophone group.. The school is awash with talent and many of these students have high order careers ahead of them. \nWatch Video

SUMMARY:I Got Rhythm’ - the life and music of George Gershwin
DESCRIPTION:‘I Got Rhythm’ – the life and music of George Gershwin \nDenis Lavin writer and narrator \nPlus jazz musicians \nWe have had Chopin and Liszt from Denis and the Liszt will be repeated at the Conwy Festival in July. Next – Gershwin. \nGershwin’s family from Odessa and Vilnius migrated to New York in 1890. George learned piano and soon was active in New York music as was his brother\, Ira. \nGershwin lies astride massive music change. Modern ideas in the late 19th/early 20th century were one influence but so was American jazz. Gershwin wrote in both idioms as did many other composers like Ravel and Debussy but of these only Gershwin conquered Broadway.
