Lisztomania – but not Ken Russell

Final concert next season (March 13th) features Ellis Thomas, piano, and Denis Lavin, narrator.

Aspects of the complex life of Franz Liszt, the inveterate traveller,inventor of the modern piano recital, composer who started off a Romantic but at the end was forward looking and user of atonal music.

Did I mention that he was also a “bad boy” of the lock up your wives and daughters variety but also a man deeply affected by his religious views.

Music includes several Transcendental Studies and a number of popular list pieces. Welsh composer Gwydion Rhys is composing a new piece based around Liszt and we may have a further Welsh composer nearer the time
