Last night from Lara Melda. There are pianists I have no interest in because they are either merely technical wizards or the way they maul the music is not for me. Lara Melda has the technical ability for sure but it is put in the service of the music. Her Chopin interpretation is well recognised but we had far more than that from Beethoven to Liszt, Rach. and Brahms. Her area of expertise at present appears to be the Romantic era and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the future. When I book musicians for concerts I want to ensure that we have the highest quality and this often means finding young musicians on their rapid ascent. Lara fulfils that and more. A great concert for a local music club to have put on and one to lay down in memory.
